Good morning respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends.
Today, I am here to speak on the topic “Plastic Pollution Problem.”
Plastic has become an important part of our daily lives. We use it in bags, bottles, food containers, toys, and many other products because it is cheap, lightweight, and durable. However, the excessive use of plastic has created one of the biggest environmental problems in the world today.
Unlike paper or food waste, plastic does not decompose easily. It can remain in the environment for hundreds of years. Every day, millions of plastic bags, bottles, and wrappers are thrown away. Much of this plastic ends up in rivers, lakes, oceans, and forests, polluting our planet.
Plastic pollution has serious effects on wildlife. Many animals, birds, and marine creatures mistake plastic for food. They may swallow it and become sick or even die. Sea turtles often confuse plastic bags with jellyfish, while seabirds and fish consume tiny pieces of plastic called microplastics. These microplastics also enter the food chain and can eventually affect human health.
Plastic waste also blocks drains and waterways, causing floods during heavy rains. Burning plastic releases harmful gases into the air, contributing to air pollution and affecting our health. As plastic waste continues to increase, it becomes harder to keep our surroundings clean and safe.
The good news is that we can all help solve this problem. We can carry reusable cloth bags instead of plastic bags, use reusable water bottles and lunch boxes, avoid single-use plastics, and recycle plastic whenever possible. We should also dispose of waste responsibly and encourage others to do the same.
Schools can organise clean-up drives, recycling programmes, and awareness campaigns to teach students about reducing plastic waste. Small changes in our daily habits can have a big impact when everyone works together.
Let us remember that protecting our environment starts with our own actions. By reducing plastic use today, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and greener world for future generations.
I would like to end with a simple but powerful message:
“Refuse single-use plastic, Reduce what you use, Reuse what you can, and Recycle what you cannot avoid. Together, we can beat plastic pollution.”
Thank you, and have a wonderful day!
