Gandhi Jayanti Speech
Good morning respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends.
Today, we have gathered to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated every year on 2 October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This day is an opportunity not only to remember one of India’s most influential leaders but also to reflect on the values he stood for.
Mahatma Gandhi, whose full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. He became one of the leading figures of India’s struggle for independence and inspired millions through his principles of truth, non-violence, simplicity, and self-discipline.
Gandhi believed that lasting change could be achieved without hatred and violence. His philosophy of Satyagraha, or the pursuit of truth through peaceful resistance, became an important part of India’s freedom movement. He encouraged ordinary people to participate in the struggle for independence and to stand firmly for what they believed was right.
Gandhi also emphasized the importance of self-reliance, equality, cleanliness, and service to others. His simple lifestyle reminded people that true leadership is not about wealth or power, but about responsibility and dedication to society.
Gandhi Jayanti is therefore more than a day of remembrance. It is a day for us to ask ourselves how we can practice these values in our own lives.
We can choose honesty over dishonesty, kindness over cruelty, dialogue over conflict and responsibility over indifference. His life teaches us that even one person, guided by strong principles and determination, can inspire millions and bring about meaningful change.
Let us remember Mahatma Gandhi not only through speeches and celebrations, but by putting his values into practice in our daily lives.
Thank you. Jai Hind!
