Good morning respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends.
Today, I am honoured to speak on the topic “Stop Littering.”
A clean environment is essential for a healthy and happy life. Our streets, parks, schools, and neighbourhoods should be places where people can enjoy nature and live safely. However, littering has become a serious problem in many places. Throwing waste carelessly on roads, playgrounds, and public areas not only makes our surroundings dirty but also harms the environment.
Litter includes items such as plastic bottles, food wrappers, paper, cans, and other waste materials that are left in unwanted places. Many people throw rubbish on the ground instead of using dustbins. This careless habit creates pollution and affects the beauty and cleanliness of our communities.
Littering has many harmful effects. It can block drains and cause flooding during heavy rains. It attracts insects and animals that can spread diseases. Plastic waste can enter rivers and oceans, harming fish, birds, and other wildlife. Burning litter also releases harmful gases that pollute the air and affect human health.
Stopping littering is a responsibility that belongs to everyone. We can begin with simple actions in our daily lives. We should always use dustbins, separate recyclable and non-recyclable waste, and avoid throwing rubbish in public places. Carrying reusable bags and bottles can help reduce the amount of waste we create.
Schools play an important role in teaching students about cleanliness and responsibility. Clean-up drives, recycling programmes, poster competitions, and environmental clubs can encourage students to keep their surroundings clean. Students can also become role models by reminding their friends and family members not to litter.
A clean environment reflects responsible citizens. We should remember that cleaning after ourselves is not difficult—it is a simple habit that shows respect for nature and for other people. Every piece of waste placed in the correct bin is a small step towards a cleaner planet.
As students, we have the power to create change. If each person takes responsibility for their own waste, our communities will become cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful.
Let us promise to keep our surroundings clean and encourage others to do the same. Together, we can reduce pollution and create a better place for everyone.
I would like to end with this meaningful message:
“Don’t be a litter maker, be a planet protector. A clean Earth begins with a clean habit. Stop littering and start caring for our environment.”
Thank you, and have a wonderful day!
